about

I wrote this exhausted by all the fumes and despair that hover like ghosts in the sad and wild city I live in. Beneath the glitter, Los Angeles exists in a disenchanted darkness crowded with lost and lonely souls. This song was my refusal to submit to this darkness one breath at a time. Amen.

lyrics

tonight i drag my sleep
in this city i refuse to dream.
apparitions of steam rise
as these streets seem to echo
in my defeat.

I'm tricked and stained
by these silhouettes
that drift and hide
and resurrect.

tonight i drag my sleep
tonight i drag my sleep.
in this city i refuse to dream
in this city i refuse to dream.

i can breathe,
i can breathe,
i can breathe.

not a name or a knife
could cut enough
away this time.
the dead now seem to
recognize me as i meditate
on all that i believe.
i believed.

tonight i drag my sleep
tonight i drag my sleep.
in this city i refuse to dream
in this city i refuse to dream.

i can breathe,
i can breathe,
i can breathe.

i swear the city lights allow
only my shadows to grow,
where the stories from so many ghosts
echo from their unnamed bones.

damn this defeat
and this grim parade,
damn this defeat
and this grim parade,

i will find my way . . .

tonight i drag my sleep
tonight i drag my sleep.
in this city i refuse to dream
in this city i refuse to dream.

i can breathe,
i can breathe,
i can breathe.

about

orphan factory Los Angeles, California

I'm from a small, rural town up in the Idaho panhandle. Much of my life has been a gamble and a kind of fistfight and I try to hold on to some semblance of faith though often I find myself too derelict to catch the offered light. Amen.
